Violinist and NYYS alumna Katherine Liu, recently received her M.M. from The Juilliard School and holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Childhood Education and Music from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York City. Since her senior year at the LaGuardia Performing Arts High School and in the Preparatory Division of The Mannes College of Music, she has been studying violin with Ms. Sally Thomas.
Ms. Liu is a recipient of numerous awards and has attended programs such as the Interlochen Arts Camp, Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, and the Meadowmount School of Music where she was Ms. Thomas’s teaching assistant in 2013 and 2014. She has been privileged to be a member of the NYYS Orchestra and its Chamber Music Program for three years in which her chamber groups, Piavioclarello (2012) and Casadesus Quartet (2013), were the recipients of the NYYSCMP Director’s Award. She was also the 2013 Apprentice Coach Intern of the NYYS Chamber Music Program. In June 2013, she received highest accolades as guest soloist in Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto with the NTNU Symphony Orchestra (National Taiwan Normal University Music Festival Series) under Ms. Apo Hsu in Taipei, Taiwan.
