Pianist Adam Golka Makes Début in Rachmaninoff Third Concerto
Concert Dedicated to Late Trustee Joseph F. McCrindle

The award-winning New York Youth Symphony continues its 47th season in Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 2pm with The Rite of Spring, by Igor Stravinsky.  The concert, conducted by Ryan McAdams, also features the début of pianist Adam Golka in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and the world première of Timothy Stulman’s Element Cycle for orchestra commissioned as the 77th orchestral work of the First Music series.  All tickets are $15 to make Carnegie Hall more widely available during financially challenged times.

This concert is dedicated to the New York Youth Symphony’s late Trustee, Joseph F. McCrindle, who served the organization for 16 years before his passing in 2008.

Adam Golka, 22 and a student of Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute, is the winner of two important American piano awards:  the 2008 Gilmore Young Artist Award and the 2009 Max I. Allen Classical Fellowship Award of the American Pianists Association.  He has appeared as soloist with the orchestras of BBC Scottish, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, San Diego, Grand Rapids, and Shanghai.

Music Director Ryan McAdams was a Conducting Fellow this past summer with the Tanglewood Music Festival at the invitation of James Levine.  A Fulbright scholar, he has worked with Alan Gilbert and Lorin Maazel and was the Assistant Conductor of the Aspen Music Festival in 2008.  He received his Masters in Orchestral Conducting from The Juilliard School in 2006.

Timothy Stulman, 28, is a doctoral candidate at Bowling Green State University, having studing with Marilyn Shrude and Mikel Kuehn.

The New York Youth Symphony, which offers tuition-free programs in orchestra, chamber music, conducting, composition, and jazz, has received more awards than any youth program of its kind in the nation.  Visit www.nyys.org.
