The New York Youth Symphony values professional responsibility and musical excellence. Absences of any kind are detrimental to the band’s progress and to each member’s personal development. It is the organization’s policy, therefore, to apply these guidelines fairly but strictly in order to maintain the musical integrity of the band.

While some absences may be unavoidable, they are acceptable only in the rarest of cases. The attendance policy allows for such absences, but it is expected that each player should avoid all but the most serious kind. Each musician is strongly urged not to miss any rehearsal.
