Attendance
Attendance guidelines are established so that each participant may understand what is expected of him or her in order to gain the most from the program.

In case of an expected absence, it is imperative for participants to notify the Program Manager in writing at least 24 hours in advance (two weeks if possible). Failure to attend a workshop session or tutorial without giving such notice is grounds for dismissal, regardless of the reason. If the student is unable to provide notice, he or she must contact the Program Manager within 24 hours after the session to confirm continuation in the Program.
  • Sessions
  • Sessions begin promptly at the time indicated on the schedule. Participants must be in place no later than five minutes before the start of the session.
  • Session Absence
  • Missing more than two full sessions during the year will result in dismissal.
  • Session Punctuality
  • Lateness to any scheduled session by up to 15 minutes constitutes a ¼ absence.
Lateness by more than 30 minutesconstitutes a ½ absence.
The Program Manager determines timing and lateness.
  • Early Departure from a Session
  • Leaving a session early by up to 15 minutes constitutes a ¼ absence.
Leaving early by more than 30 minutesconstitutes a ½ absence.
The Program Manager determines timing and lateness.
  • Assignments
  • Assignments are distributed to participants at each session. These are to be completed to the best of the individual’s ability and returned to the Program Manager at the following session. Late assignments will not be marked. Submission of all assignments is a prerequisite for performance of your composition at Composition Date: 2012.
  • Rehearsal
  • Composers are required to attend two scheduled rehearsals for their final performance piece. Failure to attend these rehearsals will result in dismissal. Composers are expected to be prepared and have the appropriate materials ready for each rehearsal.
  • Dress Rehearsal
  • Attendance at the final Making Score dress rehearsal is mandatory for those whose works are being performed.
  • Final Concerts
  • Attendance at the final Making Score concert is mandatory.
  • Tutorial Sessions Attendance
  • Attendance is mandatory. Missed sessions will not be rescheduled. Failure to attend a tutorial without advance notice (more than 24 hours) constitutes a ½ absence.

Possible Exceptions
Infractions of the Attendance Policy affect the morale of the entire Program. Composers are strongly urged, therefore, against unnecessary absence or tardiness. Even if an unavoidable conflict arises, exceptions will not be granted to students with an unfavorable pattern of absence. Exceptions which are possible, but not guaranteed, are as follows:

  • Religious Holidays
  • Religious holidays must be cleared with the Program Manager no later than October 24, 2011.
Note: Religious celebrations such as confirmation and bar/bat mitzvahs are not considered possible exceptions.
  • Family Death
  • A parent, sibling, grandparent, or legal guardian only.
  • Illness
  • Only in the event of quarantine on medical orders or hospitalization. A doctor's note is required
  • Severe Weather
  • Notification will be given from the office.
