Season 5 1967-1968

Carnegie hall performance was a farewell concert for Leonard Slatkin, who is to become associate conductor --and ultimately conductor-- of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.  The concert featured the première of the orchestra’s second commissioned work, Invocation for Orchestra, by Thomas Pasatieri, a 22-year-old Juilliard student. Richard Holmes, appointed to succeed Slatkin, was guest conductor, making his Carnegie Hall début.

New York Times:  “All in all, the Youth Symphony has many good reasons to be proud of its accomplishments in its first five years.”
