Season 50 2012-2013


The New York Youth Symphony celebrated its 50th Anniversary during the 2012/2013 Season!

Highlights of the Anniversary Celebration included:

  • Joshua Gersen's debut as the newly appointed Music Director; Harrison Hollingsworth was appointed David Alan Miller Assistant Conducting Fellow
  • Leslie and Jo Garfield were honored with the Founder’s Award at the November 25, 2012 Concert
  • WQXR and Slade Mills were honored with the Theodore S. Kesselman Award at The McCrindle Concert on March 24, 2013
  • A broadcast on WQXR of Orchestra’s March 24, 2013 Concert
  • A new collaboration with Carnegie Academy Alumni and NYYS Composition program on the Orchestration+ Reading Session
  • All Jazz concerts were moved to Jazz at Lincoln Center
  • Partnership with Concerts in Motion announced to expand Performances with Special Audiences program
  • The Jazz band will joined the Orchestra in the First Music commission by Gabriel Zucker at the November 25, 2012 Carnegie Hall concert
  • Daniel Phillips of the Orion Quartet was the Chamber Music Mentor
