I have been the drummer for the NYYS jazz band for the past 2 years and I am having a great experience! Matt Holman is a really chill director and communicates effectively with a high degree of professionalism. It has been an invaluable learning experience working on a broad range of big band repertoire, including commissioned pieces from younger members of today’s jazz community. I feel very fortunate to have been able to perform with a large number of guest artists including Lew Tabackin, Robin Eubanks, and Jon Faddis at incredible venues such as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola and the Appel Room at Lincoln Center. The friendships and musical connections I have formed with fellow band members have become an integral part of my personal and musical development and will continue to grow beyond the program. I am very excited to be touring Brazil with the band this month! It will be a great opportunity to get a unique perspective on the country. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this great organization.
