Julie Bees

Piano | Orchestra

Julie Bees is professor of piano at Wichita State University and was awarded the 2012 University Creative Activity Award for her many performances in the United States and abroad. She also received the Anita Jones Fellowship in Fine Arts in 2008. She toured Spain performing Ravels “Piano Concerto in G” with the WSU Symphony Orchestra (2008), and performed the Beethoven Third Piano Concerto in Hong Kong with the SAR Philharmonic in 2011. She has also appeared as soloist with the Dallas Symphony, Santa Barbara Festival Symphony, World Youth Symphony, Augusta Symphony, and Youth Symphony of New York (in Carnegie Hall). She returns to perform again with the SAR Philharmonic in Hong Kong next April.

Dr. Bees has performed recitals in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, Finland, Belgium, Scotland, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, and China. In the United States, she has appeared on recital series in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Dallas. Her teachers include Peggy Neighbors Erwin (Miami), Alfred Mouledous (Dallas), Leon Fleisher (Baltimore), Dieter Weber and Noel Flores (Vienna), Konrad Wolff (New York), Nelita True, and Maria Curcio-Diamand (London). A few of her students have won prizes in major international competitions. She is married to mathematician Victor Isakov, who also teaches at Wichita State University.
