Joanne Choi

Cello | Chamber Music

Joanne Choi began studying the cello at the age of six. She attended the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School as well as LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and the Performing Arts. She continued her studies at The Juilliard School, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree and the Manhattan School of Music, where she received a Master of Music degree. She has studied privately with Aldo Parisot, Darrett Adkins, and David Soyer and in masterclasses with Clive Greensmith, Laurence Lesser, Janos Starker, and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. Ms. Choi is a prize winner of many competitions such as the New York ASTA Competition, the National ASTA Competition, and the Great Neck Young Musicians Competition, which resulted in a broadcast performance on WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase. She has appeared as soloist with the Queens Symphony, the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, the LaGuardia Symphony Orchestra, the Sarah Lawrence Chamber Orchestra, as well the New York Youth Symphony, with whom she made her Carnegie Hall debut. After finishing her studies, Ms. Choi spent a year in Hawai’i as a member of the Honolulu Symphony cello section. She has participated in the Spoleto Festival USA, the Spoleto Festival dei Due Monde in Italy, and the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan. She is currently freelancing and teaching in New York.
