The NYYS Jazz Ensemble celebrates the centennial of Thad Jones, exploring everything from his early days as a trumpeter with the Count Basie Orchestra, his work as a co-founder and leader of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, and the lasting influence of his music on subsequent generations of composers and bandleaders. In addition to pieces penned by Jones, this concert will demonstrate the lineage and legacy of his music as heard in big band works by Bob Brookmeyer, Jim McNeely, and Bob Mintzer.
